Company description:: Paris – 03/08/2004 – Phonesec, a French company specialising in mobile telephone security, has offered, since its founding, the first technological service capable of identifying and validating the overall security level on a GSM mobile telephone.
Accessible 24/7, this convenient service provides technical information that helps GSM operators and subscribing manufacturers identify the benefits and risks involved in marketing – in the present or the future – a given mobile device.
“Operating as a consultant in the decision-making process, Phonesec’s Validation Department stands between the Operators’ Purchasing Departments and the mobile telephone manufacturers’ Development Departments, providing technological information with high added value,” stated Mr Bruno Carrulla, Phonesec Chairman. In 2003, Phonesec identified over 1 000 technical anomalies affecting the security of GSM mobile telephones.
As mobile telephone theft develops, Phonesec is waging an active battle, on behalf of a variety of bodies, identifying all mobile telephones that do not comply with the various technical recommendations and standards in effect (Mobile Black List). Such telephones directly harm technical anti-theft solutions such as EIR and CEIR. “To this day, the Mobile Black List includes xxx mobile telephones of differing brands and allows bodies such as the GSM World Association or England’s National Mobile Phone Crime Unit (NMPCU) to launch targeted prevention campaigns, as it clearly lists the mobile telephones on which it is relatively easy to reprogram the IMEI code”, stated Carrulla.
In the near future, Phonesec intends to expand by setting up subsidiaries abroad, in line with others standards, so as to hold positions on all of the offers currently available on the international mobile telephone security market. “Many of the players we meet list security as a valuable part of their sales pitch today, and it is our responsibility to fulfil their expectations”, added Carrulla.
